As travel restrictions and social distancing guidelines continue due to COVID-19, you may be wondering what estate planning documents you can sign online or from home. The chart below describes the statutory requirements for executing estate planning documents. Please note, there may be exceptions to these general rules. Also, even though the law may not require two disinterested witnesses and a notary, the best practice is to have them to avoid potential challenges. At this time, we are encouraging Zoom meetings or teleconferences in lieu of in person consultations. We are offering in-office or curbside appointments for final execution of documents with personal protective equipment recommended by the CDC. To schedule a consultation to update your estate planning documents, please contact us at (386) 736-1223.
